Balance yes, compromise no
There is an ever increasing demand from bus
operators for lighter, more fuel efficient and
cost effective vehicles.
Designing and building a small bus therefore
becomes as much an art, as it does a science.
Fortunately, Wrightbus has drawn on every aspect
of its design and engineering heritage in the
development of StreetLite.
StreetLite is the latest in a long line of highly
innovative products such as StreetCar and most
recently the New Bus for London.
At every stage of StreetLite's design and
development, the project team has focused on
maximising vehicle earning capacity and
minimising whole-life vehicle cost, without
compromising safety and durability.
In our challenge to be the best we have, for
example, developed a totally new Independent
Front Suspension (IFS) system to optimise the
number of seats on board.
There's a common rear module across the whole
range, whilst the engine, gearbox, cooling pack, air
filter and exhaust are fitted to a 'demountable skid'
for ease of maintenance and repair. Body pillars are
easily removable from the outside too, for fast repair
and quick return to work.
Simplicity and elegance of design, combined with a
modular approach to manufacturing, has minimised
the number of parts required.
This, coupled with the use of composite materials,
has contributed to a midi bus which delivers a new
level of quality and innovation in a vehicle of this
size and type.
Hey good looking
StreetLite definitely shows its pedigree
when it comes to looks and style. It has the
distinctive Wrightbus product family look,
sharing many of the styling cues from the
groundbreaking StreetCar and the popular
Gemini double decker.
However, StreetLite is not just a pretty face. It has a
number of practical features to minimise whole-life
costs. For example, the headlamps are positioned
outside the impact zone and there is a one piece
bumper below the front grill for easy replacement.
The end result is a vehicle that brings fresh style
and excitement to the segment, which will be
appreciated by passengers and operators alike.
The Wrightbus product family DNA is equally
evident below the surface of StreetLite too.
Step inside the vehicle and you will find a light and
airy interior, helped both by the deep 'rail to roof'
contoured side glazing and full rear window.
The driver's area has been carefully designed to
provide a highly productive working environment,
and is fully ISO 16121 compliant for ergonomics and
all round visibility.
With its unrivalled natural light and roomy interior,
StreetLite offers a great environment for passengers
too. The atmosphere is further enhanced by
constantly changing airflow and evenly distributed
heating. Reduced noise, vibration and harshness
all combine to ensure a superior passenger
experience.
A choice that's right up your Street
StreetLite is available in two configurations, one with
the door located behind the front axle ('Wheel Forward')
and one with the door ahead of the front wheel ('Door Forward').
With a standard 2445mm width across the range, body lengths and
seating layouts have been carefully chosen to deliver
class-leading seating capacity, which is essential to flexible
and efficient operation in this market segment.
